“Hands On” Science Learning at Barnett Elementary

Barnett Elementary’s mission statement is: “Making THE difference in lifelong learning”  We are proud that over one hundred of our school’s students from K-6 entered our school’s science fair on February 10th.

Surprising to some, a science fair project is one of the best learning experiences a student can undertake.  Preparing a science fair project is an excellent example of what education experts call active learning or inquiry (also "hands-on" learning). It is a very effective instructional method and is recommended as a cornerstone of successful science teaching. Our society relies on science every day, and science fairs are a great way for students to become more knowledgeable about how the world around them works. Every citizen needs sufficient science literacy to make educated decisions about what he or she reads in the media, about health care, and about other every-day problems. Barnett students are proud to be “hands-on” learners and problem solvers!

The winners in the 5th and 6th grade division were:
Grand Prize - Adam Warner, 1st Place - Ethan Manuta, 2nd Place -Mark Peterson and Carson Caines, 3rd place - Quinn Christiansen, 4th place - Luis Sion.  

Our top 10 winners are eligible to advance to compete in the district science fair on February 24th.  Adam Warners project was “What gas station (or company of gas) gives us the best gas mileage?”, Ethan Manuta’s project was “Does decreasing the air pressure in a football make it easier to hande and catch?” just to name a few.

3-4 grade division winners: 1st place - McKenzie Mitchell, 2nd place - Kristen Harris, 3rd place - McKenzie & Katelyn Pugmire, 4th place - John Humphries,

K-2 grade division winners: 1st place - Tori Harris, 2nd place - Addison Pugmire, 3rd place - Taylor Humphries, 4th place - Abby Harris

All of our students did an amazing job and the caliber of projects get better every year. Congratulations to all the students who entered the science fair at Barnett!
