Leadership Day 2019

Barnett Staff

Barnett Elementary had our Leadership Day on February 7. It is a day that we as a school can celebrate and demonstrate our leadership skills by sharing how we use the 7 habits everyday. The 7 habits that we live by are:

1. Be proactive

2. Begin with the end in mind

3. Put first things first

4. Think win-win

5. Seek first to understand, then to be understood

6. Synergize

7. Sharpen the saw

We had our guests become a part of a pack and participate in a pack activity. Afterwards, we moved the fun to the lunchroom where our guests watched a program put on by every student in the school. Hopefully if you attended our leadership day, you left feeling excited about the habits and hope to implement them into your life. If you didn't have a chance to come this year, watch for reminders for next year's leadership day. It is definitely something you don't want to miss!

Kindergarten Registration Moving to Summer

Dear Parents and Guardians:

This message is for parents who have children entering kindergarten this fall for the 2019-2020 school year. Please forward this to anyone who needs this information but may not receive this email.

Kindergarten registration, traditionally held in March, will be moved to the summer and combined with grades 1-6. More detailed information regarding summer K-6 registration will be sent out to you before the end of the school year.

Parents can prepare now for registering their kindergarten children by making sure they have a birth certificate and that their child is current on the following immunizations: DTap, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Polio, Varicella and MMR by the end of July.

We appreciate your help getting the word out. Please contact the office if you have any questions. Thank you.

This week we will be celebrating White Ribbon Week at Barnett which is a focus on Internet Safety. We will be using the Let's Get Real Program which supports healthy choices in media and technology. Your students will be coming home with a letter that talks about the Power Boosts and Focus for each day. There will also be other items that come home to support family discussions on media and technology along with the students talking in their classes each day and participating in a lunch activity during lunch recess.

Here are the Power Boosts the students will be talking about each day:

Tuesday: "I will use technology to show kindness and respect."
Wednesday: "I will give priority to real life relationships."
Thursday: "I will choose healthy activities to handle stress and boredom."
Friday: "I will choose to balance my day."
Monday(2/25): "I will remember that not everything online is real."

We are finishing off White Ribbon Week next Monday, February 25th with a special event our district is holding at Salem Hills High School. Monday, February 25th, at 7:00pm Dr. Christy Kane will use clinical experience and scientific research to explain the neurologic changes taking place in the developing brain due to the impact of electronics.

Principals 200 Board

Outside of our office, there is a whiteboard hanging with 200 places on the board. Leaders at Barnett Elementary that get a brag note from a teacher, get to pick a number, and their name is written on the board in that place. Once the board is all filled up, Mrs. Stoddard chooses 3 lucky winners. The first place winner's row also wins! We have filled this board up multiple times this year. It sure is easy to do when we have a school full of great, amazing leaders. Congratulations to our Principals 200 Board winners. We will be starting fresh on Monday. Let's see how fast we can fill it this time!

Top Dogs for January
Leaders of the month for January

It was the first Bulldog Pride Assembly in the new year. We have had such a great January. It really has just flown by. This month our leaders had come back from a holiday break and got right back into the routine of school. We have had many great accomplishments this month: the school spelling bee, yellow pack's party, and moving closer and closer to our school WIG of moving up reading levels. Our top dogs and leaders of the month this month really shined! Congrats to our alpha dog winners, Mr. Cope and Mrs. Ross! You two are amazing and we are so lucky to have you here at Barnett. Great job to all of the top dogs and leaders of the month for January. You deserved it! Keep up the hard work! Go Bulldogs!
