5th Grade Movement Activity Day

Submitted by beth.knudsen on

Today the Nebo District Dance Specialist, Holly Markgraf-Mayne, came to the school to share some social studies dances with the fifth graders.  With Mrs. Buys' and Mrs. Harward's class, Mrs. Markgraf-Mayne told the history of and steps to a colonial dance.

In Mrs. Knudsen's class she did an activity to piggy-back on their learning in social studies of Westward Expansion.  Each person was in a group to research, create a class project, and then to create a dance map and dance for one of four groups: California Gold Rush, Oregon Trail, Mormon Trail, and Trail of Tears.  The students were able to use what they knew from their research to create a map with dance movements reflecting the direction and events that happened along that particular trail. It was a fun and educational experience to watch and participate in!
