Get to know Ms. Jena Sonntag!

I've taught in special education for 5 years - 2 years as a technician and 3 years as the teacher.

I have 5 kids - 4 boys and 1 girl. My 4 oldest children are at university - my daughter is at DSU, 2 boys are at UVU, and my oldest boy is at USU. I can't believe that my youngest is starting 9th grade this year and will be the only child at home. My kids are my everything. I love being with them and feel blessed that I get to be a part of their lives. Our family continues to grow with 2 toy poodles that have joined our family over the last 1.5 years. One is named Rudy after Rudy Gobert of the Utah Jazz, and the other is named Smidvarg after a dragon from Dragon's Edge.

My favorite hobby is traveling. When I'm not traveling, I love to read books, cook meals with my kids, go for walks and hikes, quilt, and go to the theater. I want to start doing yoga and see if I like it.

I loved school which must be why I'm still in school. For April Fool's Day in 6th grade, I remember switching classes with another class. It was awesome because the teacher didn't notice that we had switched until we were halfway through taking a spelling test.

This summer, my family and I will go to Newport Beach in California for a few days. We go nearly every year. It feels like a true vacation because we love the area and everyone has something that they look forward to doing. For me, I love to walk in the mornings along the beach. Then, watching my kids play in the waves is joyful. We have a favorite Italian restaurant that we eat at once during the trip and my kids are already planning what they want to eat for dinner that night.

A goal I'm working on is putting my phone away when other people are in the room. I don't do it that often but I don't want to do it at all.

Favorite drink: Dr. Pepper
Favorite goodies: cookies, and chips with guacamole
