Think you have what it takes to face your fears? Mrs. Spencer's, Ms. Leach's, and Mrs. Laudato's sixth graders do!!! January's incentive activity for Barnett sixth graders was the opportunity to participate in Fear Factor!  Each class sent six volunteers to compete for the coveted Fear Factor Championship.  Participants were challenged to hold ice in their hand, eat dried squid, & drink tomato juice with herring chunks, just to name a few. Do you think you could do it? Fellow students got the task of watching their friends gag as they tried their best to complete the different challenges. They cheered and  pressured challengers into extremely uncomfortable situations.  Much fun was had by all the students in sixth grade. In the end, Ms. Leach's class took home the trophy!  When the competition was finished, student's were reminded of the effects of peer pressure and how sometimes we do things that we would never dream of doing when we feel pressure from others. Students were also reminded that people are influenced by peers because they want to fit in, be like peers they admire, do what others are doing, or have what others have.  It's not always easy to resist negative peer pressure, but when you do, it is easy to feel good about it afterwards. And you may even be a positive influence on your peers who feel the same way — and Barnett sixth graders are positively amazing people!
