This month's teacher spotlight are the sixth grade teachers. This is what the teachers have to say about each other!
Focus on--Mrs. Gwen Spencer
I don't know how she has enough minutes in her day to do all she does. She is always so willing to take on extra projects to help our team and is constantly looking for things to help us with. Her students think she is amazing and willing to work with them. A great teacher and friend. She is dedicated – showing up everyday and spending the necessary time to provide her students with the best education.She is empathetic– being sensitive to a student’s struggles even though she may not personally be able to relate to them. She is fearless – Trying a new approach that may be outside the norm and may receive criticism or scrutiny.
Focus on--Mrs. Lisa Peterson
Mrs. Peterson can "shift gears" and can be very flexible with her schedule. She is a great leader and keeps our 6th grade team on task and ready anything that comes our way. She creates a sense of community and belonging in the classroom. In her small community, there are rules to follow and jobs to be done and each student is aware that he or she is an important, integral part of the group. Mrs. Peterson lets her students know that they can depend not only on her, but also on the entire class. She is warm, accessible, enthusiastic and caring. She is approachable, not only to students, but to everyone in the building. If she is having a bad day, no one ever knows—she leaves personal baggage outside the school doors. Even through all of her trials she never complains and goes with the flow. She works smarter not harder, meaning she really focuses on what is the most important and focuses on those things to teach. Her students love her and know her expectations. A well organized teacher always willing to share new ideas to better our team.
Focus on--Mrs. Lindsey Laudato
Mrs. Laudato is generous – volunteering for extra assignments and/or giving money out of her own pocket for classroom needs or individual student needs. She is joyful – coming to class each day in a good mood, excited, and enthusiastic about doing her job. She is passionate – teaching with enthusiasm and exuberance on a daily basis because she loves the content and her students. She collaborates with on an ongoing basis that keeps us focused and on track with our planning. Mrs. Laudato has a great respect for her students and fellow educators. She values others' opinions and ideas and is always willing to try. Mrs. Laudato sets high expectations for all students. She knows that students generally give to teachers as much or as little as is expected of them. She has a love of learning and inspires students with her passion for education. She has no fear of learning new teaching strategies or incorporating new technologies into lessons.
We are so lucky to have these three wonderful sixth grade teachers at Barnett!
