5th Grade goes to BYU Bean Museum and Thistle Landslide

Submitted by jaimie.standish on

5th grade has been learning about the Earth's Surfaces in Science. In order to make the concepts we have been learning about come to life for our students, we had them research the Thistle Landslide of 1983. Students read articles, taught each other, and learned all they could about the landslide. Then we got to go there as a grade level! The students loved seeing the geographical features they had learned about right in their own "backyard". We then got back on the bus and headed to the BYU Bean Museum.

Taxation Without Representation Comes to Life for Barnett 5th Graders!

Submitted by jaimie.standish on

In 5th grade, we have been studying the American Revolution. In order to better understand "Taxation Without Representation", we had our 5th graders select a profession at the beginning of the week. They were then given a weekly salary. All seemed to be in their favor... until we started taxing them on everyday things. Everything from their desk to a piece of paper to extra lead in their pencil had a tax placed upon it. Students quickly realized that not having a say in what will be taxed and how much they will be taxed was not their favorite thing.

Barnett's Buttercup

Submitted by jaimie.standish on

In second grade we have a pet bunny! Her name is Buttercup and she is the smallest breed of bunny in the world, a Netherland Dwarf! We have studied her diet, habitat, predators, and heritage. We love to observe her behaviors as well. She has been a wonderful class pet to study and just down right cute to look at!

2nd Grade goes to the Farm!

Submitted by jaimie.standish on

This past week all of 2nd grade went on a fun filled field trip! We were able to take a tour of a farm and learn all about farm animals! We also learned about what foods animals eat to be healthy as well as what we need to eat to have a healthy balanced diet. The best part was easily petting baby animals! We had a blast!
