On Tuesday, February 7, 2012, the students in Mrs. Knudsen's fifth grade class went back in time to participate in the Underground Railroad. They were each assigned a part in the role-play. All of the roles were based on real people who actually helped or hindered slaves on the Underground Railroad.
On January 31, the first graders at Barnett Elementary celebrated the 100th Day of School. Throughout the day they were able to do a lot of fun activities to celebrate. One of the activities they did was put together 100 piece puzzles. The students had so much fun celebrating this fun day!

January's incentive activity for Barnett sixth graders was the opportunity to participate in Fear Factor! Each class sent six volunteers to compete for the coveted Fear Factor Championship. Participants were challenged to hold ice in their hand, eat dried squid, & drink tomato juice with herring chunks, just to name a few. Do you think you could do it?
Barnett’s 6th grade classes have participated in a program called N.O.V.A. over the last few months, which teaches principles of bettering your life through learning life skills and building an awareness against alcohol and drugs. As part of the requirements for their N.O.V.A.
The first grade students at Barnett Elementary get to participate in a Fun Friday activity if they finish all of their centers during the week. This last week the students who attended Fun Friday got to do a fun art project. The students loved doing this art project as a reward for working so hard during the week on their centers.

The fifth-grade at Barnett School has been very busy studying the intricate layers of the Earth's Crust. To simulate this billion year geological process in a delicious and fun way, students studied the layering through 'P.B. & Jelly-ology.' Students were given three types of bread, crunchy peanut butter, jelly, honey, Nutella spread, and gummy worms acting as fossils to help them conceptualize the various layers of Earth. As Mrs.
For those suffering from Automatonophobia, the fear of wax figures, this article may not be for you. Dozens of fifth-grade 'wax' historical figures posed in the Barnett Elementary school gym before Christmas break. Every year, the fifth-grade lets their students research their choice of famous person from United States history. After researching, they are able to write a speech that their character would give, briefly describing their role in our history. Past Presidents, inventors, and astronauts were just a few of the statues parents and friends could visit that day.
Barnett Elementary's Second-grade has been working hard to perform a large selection of Christmas music and student-written speaking parts. Directed by Barbara Chapman and accompianed by Kaye Hansen, the performance included favorites like: Up on the Housetop, Rudolf the red-Nosed Reindeer, All I want for Christmas is my Two Front Teeth, and Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas. The performance was held on Tuesday December 20th, in the Barnett Cafeteria. We would like to thank all of the parents, family, and friends who came to support our production.
The fourth grade students at Barnett Elementary had an exciting learning opportunity recently at Salem Pond. The students participated in a wide variety of activities to help them better understand the essential role of the wetlands for Utah’s environment. Students participated in a nature scavenger hunt, tested water samples, and played games that related to animal habitat and survival. They also drew and wrote about a specific scene at the pond.
