Adventure at Salem Pond

Submitted by beth.knudsen on

At Barnett Elementary we are keeping our fourth graders busy. Last week we visited Salem Pond to study wetlands. Thanks to our parent and grandparent volunteers we were able to have students rotate through seven different stations. Students found and compared bugs, identified plants and animals, and played a great game to learn about animal adaptations. They were able to write descriptive sentences about the wetlands and decorate a rock that we later named and wrote about. At the end of the day students participated in service learning by helping to clean up Salem Pond. They collected not just their own trash but any they could find in an effort to leave the pond cleaner then they found it and give back. Now Barnett has home to seventy-eight wetlands experts!
