Third Grade Spelling Bee

Submitted by sara.stout on

On Thursday, March 29 the third grade held their annual spelling bee. Each class had their own spelling bees earlier in the week, but only the top three from each participated that afternoon. After some rigorous spelling and some tongue twisting words, Dreyton Whicker in Mrs. Morrise’s class won first place, followed closely behind by Karli Barclay in second, and Gideon Watkins in third. All of the participants did extremely well and studied hard. Great job to all of those who participated and congratulations to our winners!

First and Second-Grade Reading Winners

Submitted by sara.stout on

This last month, Ms. Zylstra's first-grade class and Mrs. Stout's second-grade class, won their grade level competitions for most days read in the month. In order to win this prestigious award, the students must turn in their reading calendars and have read at least twenty minutes for the day to count. All the days are counted up and whichever class has the most days read for the month receives the reading trophy and fame (their picture in the paper) or fortune (a prize from the principal's treasure chest)! These classes worked hard to be the champions.

The Journey of Day to Stoddard

Submitted by sara.stout on

I am posting a few pictures from Mrs. Stoddard's wedding. I really wanted to see pictures from her wedding and  thought that others might want to as well. So after a few months of begging, and a few weeks of procrastination :), here are a few of the beautiful pictures of when our Day became a Stoddard. Thanks Mrs. Stoddard for letting me post these!

Second Grade Muses at the Museum

Submitted by sara.stout on

This last week, Barnett Elementary's whole second grade was able to venture to Lehi on a field trip to the Hutchings Museum. Through seven different rooms, the museum taught the second grade everything from trilobites to the pony express. The kids were able to identify their birth stones, touch fossilized dinosaur droppings, and hang out in an old jail cell. Thanks to the museum and the parent volunteers, the field trip was a great success!

Sixth-Grade Renaissance Dinner and Dance

Submitted by sara.stout on

Barnett’s 6th-grade incentive for February was a Renaissance Dinner and Dance. Students helped donate bread, soup, veggies and refreshments for an etiquette dinner. Dressed in Medievalattire or formal wear, the 6th graders learned how to talk socially and learned appropriate behavior for dining in a restaurant. Students then learned different dances where they changed partners and other classics like the bunny hop. This was a hit with the sixth grade and taught them proper etiquette for the future.

Suess Day in Sixth-grade

Submitted by sara.stout on

Sixth-grade students got a little “sock” crazy on Dr. Seuss’ birthday. They wore crazy socks to celebrate “Fox in Socks” and other memorable Seuss books. There were special visitors throughout the day including Cat in the Hat and an adorable fish. What a great day.
