Barnett fourth-graders get hands-on Science experience at Diamond Fork Canyon.

On February 18 all of Barnett Fourth Grade observed the wild in Diamond Fork Canyon on snow shoes. The Forest Service put on great presentations that were both educational and fun. The students learned about wildlife and their winter patterns, adaptations and the effect of weather on animals. They learned so much that they all want to go back!

The annual 3rd Grade Spelling Bee took place at Barnett on February 5th, 2010.  The students competed in a class spelling bee first and from there the top three spellers moved on to the final round where they competed against the other classes.  All 12 finalists did a great job.  Grace Haskell and Jordan Mathews came in 2nd and 3rd place and Adam Call won with word "enemies."  Congratulations to all who participated!

Red Rock Orthodontics came to visit the second graders at Barnett on January 28, 2009.  They talked to the students about things they need to do to keep their teeth healthy. It was a great presentation and the students really enjoyed learning more about how to keep their teeth healthy. Thank you Red Rock Orthodontics for a great presentation!

Books in Pairs/Libros en Pares

Great things are happening at Barnett Elementary. Students are reading, reading, reading. They can now take home books in English accompanied with the same book in Spanish. For many parents who read only Spanish, this has been the first time that they have been able to sit and read with their child. One parent excitedly shared that he and his daughter are "reading together every night." The check out library has been organized by fifth grade students: Diana Guillen, Alejandra Sanchez, Jonathan Cordova, and Mario Cruz.
