Barnett’s 6th-grade incentive for February was a Renaissance Dinner and Dance. Students helped donate bread, soup, veggies and refreshments for an etiquette dinner. Dressed in Medievalattire or formal wear, the 6th graders learned how to talk socially and learned appropriate behavior for dining in a restaurant. Students then learned different dances where they changed partners and other classics like the bunny hop. This was a hit with the sixth grade and taught them proper etiquette for the future.

Sixth-grade students got a little “sock” crazy on Dr. Seuss’ birthday. They wore crazy socks to celebrate “Fox in Socks” and other memorable Seuss books. There were special visitors throughout the day including Cat in the Hat and an adorable fish. What a great day.

On February 24th the kindergarten classes had a great time running the Kindy 500. With their homemade vehicles, the children went on a road trip in our school to learn about our American Symbols. Two of our students, Megan Jacobson and Megan Durrant, led the way in the parade of cars. The children met Abraham Lincoln, the Statue of Liberty, and Betsy Ross. They learned about the American eagle, the White House, Mt. Rushmore and the Liberty Bell. It was a very successful activity,and we look forward to another road trip with our students next year.

Students at Barnett Elementary have been working hard this month to earn Brag Notes. When a student earns a brag note their name is added to the Principal’s 200 Club Board. Brag notes can be earned by making good choices, working hard in school, and being a good friend or helper just to name a few things. Once the board is full of student names we have a drawing for books and prizes. Here are our winners for the month of February. Thanks for making so many good choices Barnett Bulldogs!

On Tuesday, February 7, 2012, the students in Mrs. Knudsen's fifth grade class went back in time to participate in the Underground Railroad. They were each assigned a part in the role-play. All of the roles were based on real people who actually helped or hindered slaves on the Underground Railroad.

On January 31, the first graders at Barnett Elementary celebrated the 100th Day of School. Throughout the day they were able to do a lot of fun activities to celebrate. One of the activities they did was put together 100 piece puzzles. The students had so much fun celebrating this fun day!

January's incentive activity for Barnett sixth graders was the opportunity to participate in Fear Factor!  Each class sent six volunteers to compete for the coveted Fear Factor Championship.  Participants were challenged to hold ice in their hand, eat dried squid, & drink tomato juice with herring chunks, just to name a few. Do you think you could do it?

Barnett’s 6th grade classes have participated in a program called N.O.V.A. over the last few months, which teaches principles of bettering your life through learning life skills and building an awareness against alcohol and drugs. As part of the requirements for their N.O.V.A.

The first grade students at Barnett Elementary get to participate in a Fun Friday activity if they finish all of their centers during the week. This last week the students who attended Fun Friday got to do a fun art project. The students loved doing this art project as a reward for working so hard during the week on their centers.
